Pinky y Cerebro - S01, Ep04, Sketch03 - Cheese Roll

Semper Fidelis, marchita militar de John Philip Sousa es la elección (rítmica) de este Cheese Roll. Hay un par de consideraciones: la influencia principal del jazz en su creación fue la música militar europea, ragtimes y cantos afroamericanos aparte. Semper Fidelis fue la segunda marcha de Sousa, justo después de la Gladiator March y fue escogida el himno de los marines. El escogido para cantar la marcha es Pinky. Ante todo esto solo cabe decir Narf. Y otra cosa: el que escojan la música clásica (tardía, pero clásica al fin y al cabo, popular y con connotaciones evidentes) para hablar de las bondades del queso en una clave tremendamente chorra no puede dejar de parecerme bien. Y sin más dilaciones, disfruten del asunto.

Wensleydale: I am the British cheese Wensleydale, lightly
pressed and smooth textured with a subtle
milky flavor which is clean and refreshing.

Pinky: Welcome, Wensleydale!

Cheddam: G’day! I am Australian Cheddam, an
innocuous, golden yellow, rindless block
inspired by Cheddar and Edam!

Pinky: Welcome, Cheddam!

Edelpilzkäse: I am the German cheese Edelpilzkäse, a fine,
blue-veined cheese with a pale ivory paste
and very dark veins traveling vertically
through me.

Pinky: Welcome, Edelpil… Edel… oh, willkommen!

Brie: I am the French cheese Brie, a soft,
unpressed, naturally drained cow’s milk with
white rind flora, molded into large flat disks
and ripened for three to four weeks.

Pinky: Thank you, cheeses! I want to eat you all!

Pinky: Mmm… yummy! Narf!

La canción fue escrita por Paul Rugg, que ha escrito entre otras cosas episodios de Freakozoid y de Dave The Barbarian. Esta última presenta a un bárbaro más preocupado por su família que realmente por los asuntos bárbaros. Más allá del gag este concepto no está tan alejado del de la canción: convertir la parafernalia de rudeza, belicosidad y pomposidad en un imaginario absurdo marcado por la línea del chiste melódico por encima de la parodia made easy (que sería básicamente este gag, para hacernos una idea) para alcanzar una sátira verdadera: una reescritura en toda regla de los códigos de la violencia, convertidos en sucesión interminable de cortinas rasgadas que ocultan, nada más y nada menos, que una existencia marcada por los ¿buenos? valores. Si a Pinky le interesa más el queso, a Dave cocinar. Y uno canta bajo ritmos de la Marina y el otro es un bárbaro en la Edad Medieval más Oscura.
